- Credit Guarantee: The government steps in & backs 75% of loans up to ₹7.5 lakh. This helps banks support more students.
- Easy Repayment: You get up to 15 years to pay back—not counting the study period and one year after.
- All-Digital & Simple: Apply on the PM Vidyalaxmi website. It’s clear, quick, and you track everything online. Subsidies go straight to your bank.
- Big Reach: Starting 2024-25 till 2030-31, more than 22 lakh students will get help each year. There’s a special budget marked out just for this.
Eligibility Criteria (2025)
- You must be an Indian citizen.
- Must get admission on merit to any of the top 860 QHEIs (includes NIRF top 100, state HEIs ranked 101-200, also centrally run institutes).
- Open to all undergraduate, postgraduate & professional courses.
- You can’t get the scheme if you already take any competing government scholarship/subsidy or have been banned for poor conduct.
- For interest help, your family income can’t be above ₹8 lakh (or ₹4.5 lakh for full interest cut).
Application Process
Step 1: Check if you’re eligible and if your college is in the QHEI list. Use the main portal’s dashboard.
Step 2: Gather all papers—Aadhaar, admission letter, school/college marksheets, income proof, bank info, photographs.
